Monster Coach: the full app
Beneath its friendly design, the app follows a clear therapeutic sequence: externalising difficult thoughts and creating distance from them; developing emotional and body awareness; and connecting with values and taking committed action. Psychologists and trained adults can guide and adapt this process in response to the young person's needs and the wider psychological formulation.
Monster Coach begins with a simple idea: worries do not need fixing to be understood. Fifteen friendly ‘Worry Monsters’ bring familiar thinking patterns to life, each imagined as a well-meaning protector whose voice has grown a little too loud. Through playful, interactive activities, young people learn to notice and name worried thoughts, explore the feelings and body sensations that accompany them, and choose a calmer, wiser next step.
Designed for use alongside a trusted adult, the activities draw on CBT and parts work therapy to nurture emotional awareness, self-compassion and everyday coping skills. Neuro-affirming and non-pathologising by design, Monster Coach runs entirely offline on your own device. It supports meaningful conversation and connection in schools and therapeutic settings; it is not a replacement for therapy or professional care.
